Summer Trip

Summer Trip

Join us this summer in serving among our Native American neighbors.

We are called by Jesus to love our neighbors, and historically, the Native American neighbors among us have been displaced and their communities have been in decline. Native American children are a four times more likely than caucasian kids to end up in foster care.

We are seeking to come alongside our ministry partners at Sacred Road Ministries as we learn to love our neighbors on the Warm Springs Reservation and here in West Seattle. Learn more: sacredroadministries.com.

WHERE

The Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon. We will be staying at the First Baptist Church of Madras. Men and women sleep separately. Meals will be provided for us.

WHO

Individuals and families are welcome. Age 13 is the minimum age. 13 and 14 year olds must be accompanied by a parent of the same gender, and are expected to have a level of maturity that can support exposure to marginalized people in extreme poverty.

WHAT WILL WE DO

We will be spending the first part of each day doing “grunt work” (painting, cleaning, gardening, making repairs) with a team leader assigned to us. In the afternoons and evenings, we will be spending time with the “Kids Club”. Kids Club provides tutoring, recreation, and worship opportunities for kids of all ages. The true work is to experience and to extend the love for Christ.

You can find a detailed itinerary here.

HOW MUCH

All Souls has paid a $150 deposit for each person. There is a remaining balance of $225 for each participant. As a team, we should plan a fundraising event to help cover costs. Balances are due by May 15th. The money received for each participant is used to cover room and board for volunteers, and materials for the work site for that week. The funds are not used for administrative costs or salaries of employees.

WHEN

Saturday evening June 27, 2020 (arrival after 7 pm) through July 4, 2020 (departure that morning). The deadline to decide is February 15th.
