About

About

We are a church who exist to be a vibrant expression of who God is— gracious, present, hospitable.

We are a worshipping community rooted in the belief that the historic Christian gospel is true, compelling, and brings powerful change in our lives... toward freedom, wholeness, and hope. We seek to embody and articulate this gospel of grace, bringing about spiritual, social, and cultural renewal in Seattle and, through it, the world.

We believe that this gospel is not something that ‘I have and someone else needs’; rather it’s something that everyone needs all the time. So we're less interested in religious ‘how-tos’ and self-help. Instead, together, we desire to celebrate the abundant, free grace of a loving God, endeavoring to press the astonishing love of Jesus through our hearts and lives while praying for and serving our neighborhoods.

All Souls is a collection of folks from all walks and stages of life. Our stories, backgrounds and interests are varied. But we are held together by one common bond: none of us have it all together, and true, lasting hope is ours only in Jesus. So wherever you are on your spiritual journey— whether skeptical or mildly curious, or perhaps already a committed follower of Jesus Christ— we welcome you. All Souls is a place to begin and begin again, from anywhere.

Our Story

All Souls began humbly in autumn 2009 with a handful of families in a living room, dreaming and praying about what a brand new church would be like in our neighborhood, for our neighborhood.

We imagined a worshipping community where we could worship the Living God, follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love one another in authentic relationships, and seek the welfare of our city.

In October of 2010 we began gathering weekly for public worship. Getting a church off the ground in that first year required more hard work than anyone involved could have anticipated— plenty of blood and sweat, not to mention our share of tears— yet this work grew into something so much more rewarding than anything we could have imagined.

We've seen a dynamic, multi-generational community take shape that wasn't around before we began––here, in our beloved West Seattle. All Souls is now a church family into which folks are welcomed no matter what; are becoming known and being served; are encountering the character of God and his gospel of grace, and are being changed by it.

As our story continues to unfold, we’re excited about what’s ahead. Everything good that has happened has been entirely God's gift to us; he is the builder and the host. We've done our best to set the table, but he has provided the meal and guests. The sowing is his, and the harvest is his.

This, after all, is God’s story unfolding here.

All Souls is a church in the Anglican tradition. We are part of The Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others, whose key values are: Kingdom, Spirit, Formation, Mission, and Sacrament.

Anglicanism celebrates unity in the essential elements of Christian faith, worship, life, and work. We reflect a “three streams” approach to worship, confident this approach encourages and cultivates humility, maturity, and a healthy appreciation for diversity:

Spirit-filled: we believe God is always and everywhere present and active among his people. We anticipate the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the church for the illumination of truth, the conviction of sin, and the restoration of all things.

Bible-guided: we take seriously God’s command to speak about and live like Jesus. We preach and teach from the Bible because we believe it is the inspired word of God, and our desire is for all people to enter into a saving relationship with Jesus.

Liturgy-formed: we value the longevity of historic tradition, the rhythms of the church calendar, and our connection to the global Church.

Our essential beliefs about God are captured by the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds. As we recite and celebrate these together, we join Christians around the world and across the ages in affirming our faith in the one God who created us, rescues us, and is making us whole.
