THE GOSPEL IS NEWS OF WHAT GOD HAS DONE TO REACH US, NOT ADVICE ABOUT WHAT WE MUST DO TO REACH GOD.

Anyone is welcome in worship, we encourage you to come as you are, and we get that visiting a church for the first time can be intimidating.

We choose comfort over formality when it comes to our ‘Sunday best’, so we wear jeans and sneakers. A few shirts are tucked in, most are not. Some of us work downtown, some from home, some barely at all, so our appearances vary accordingly. Bed-head, tattoos, shorts, skirts, stubble, pressed khakis, wrinkled t-shirts, ascots, and flip-flops––all okay. Wear what’s comfortable.

Also, it’s our commitment to walk you through each component of the worship service so no one feels like an outsider. There will be no obscure, tribal language. Our worship is structured, with liturgy and rich music that connects us to the church of old and those who’ve gone before us–– we are deeply rooted in something much larger than ourselves or our own cultural moment. But our worship is accessible and enjoyable. We mix historic forms with contextual and relevant style.

People will greet you warmly at the door. You’ll be given a worship guide and be seated in our meeting space. From there you can expect some music, some prayer, and some teaching from the Bible. Additionally, you will learn more about All Souls and where you can get plugged in.

You should always feel the freedom to participate actively in our worship or to just listen and observe at your discretion. It is a time to process freely and safely the audacious claims of Jesus, and the inevitable tension between the beauty and scandal of the historic Christian gospel.

We haven’t heard the gospel for what it really is if we don’t find it at once horribly offensive and staggeringly beautiful. It is both heart-breaking and heart-mending.

WHAT ABOUT KIDS?

Worship is a celebration of grace, not a theological lecture. So children of all ages are encouraged to join us at anytime during the service––we are used to having them around! Also, we have three children's rooms available during the service (ages 0-3, preschool, and elementary) to provide a safe environment for them to play, create, and learn while parents worship.

There is also a designated and semi-private area in the worship space for nursing moms, and separate ‘cry room’, if needed. But there are many young children at All Souls (under 3 years), so don’t worry––we’re used to noise and interruptions. No one will look at you funny if your baby or toddler isn’t silent the whole time!
